Bummed

I didn't get a number for the NYC Marathon this November. I am majorly bummed out right now. I will, therefore, have to look into signing up for a charity to get a number, but most of them require $2500 to be raised for the cause, and I am not sure I will be able to get that much together. So we'll see what happens. I am bummed.

A couple of friends of mine recently ran in the Barcelona marathon. They asked their friends and family to sponsor them and all proceeds went to a worthy cause. If you're gonna donate all that cash to a charity anyway, why not consider a sponsor drive to "reimburse" you? It's the same thing. That way you run, the charity gets its money, people support a good cause, and you're not out of pocket.

Well, you see my good man, the NYC marathon is such that you have to sign up with specific charities that are affiliated with the race itself, and as such, have to raise a minimum amount of cash in order to run. If you don't raise that minimum amount (usually in the vicinity of $2500), they automatically take it out from your credit card (CC info has to be given upon registration). So, you see, it is quite a burden mentally and (potentially) financially to get the money raised, and I personally HATE asking people for money, so it puts me in an awkward spot. I will probably just sign up for Philly - guaranteed spot for $80. We'll see, still looking into it.
