Chaos

This apartment looks like a bomb hit it - everything is packed away in boxes, which are currently strewn around the place like a friggin' obstacle course. God forbid I should have to wake up and go for a piss in the middle of the night...

Even though it is chaotic, Stevie is as happy as a pig in shit! Despite her hatred for entropy (i.e. disorder [for those who never took physics]), she is loving getting stuff packed and ready for the big move. She has done 99% of the packing...and usually does so before I even wake up! She has helped me weed through my closet and MADE me get rid of probably half of the stuff in there...all unwearable items that are either:

A) sun-bleached
B) covered in random stains (probably from some drunken exploits back in the UK)
C) WAY too big

So, now I have half as many clothes to hang up in my new closet...thus leaving plenty of room for NEW stuff!! YAY!! I have been prohibited from purchasing too many items, seeing as how I have been shrinking over the last year or so, but I am sure I can convince her to let me go for a mini-spree at Old Navy once we get moved in...

It is truly amazing how much crap one accumulates over the course of 2 years. Of course, we have TONS of engagement/wedding gifts sitting in the attic, so that adds a bunch of stuff...hopefully we will have more room in our new place to display/use some of these gifts (especially kitchen items)! In any case, everything is boxed up and ready to move...2 days and counting...

That's about all for now. Angela and Michelle are watching "Bridgett Jones' Diary" behind me right now, so I will have to go elsewhere for fear of vomitting up my delightful Pancho's dinner.

Next time I write will hopefully be from our new casa in LB! Until then....

My Jungle Love...O-E-O-E-O

This past weekend was a nice one indeed. On saturday, we headed down to Red Bank, NJ for my cousin Aimee's wedding (on Sunday). We stayed at the very posh hotel that the wedding took place at, The Molly Pitcher Inn, right on the lovely Navesink River. Saturday evening, we met up with my buddy Matthias (hereby referred to as Janja Weed). We headed into town and found the promised land - Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash. This is a comic-book store owned by Kevin Smith aka Silent Bob. I really wasn't interested in the comic books, but they had some of the props and costumes from many of the Kevin Smith films...including, of course, "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," one of the funnier (and frequently quoted) movies seen back in the UK by myself and my friends. Unfortunately, Kevin Smith wasn't there, but I bought the last Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back t-shirt ever made. I shall wear it with pride.

After the pilgrimage, we went to eat at a nice pub, which looked and felt just like a real british pub. Then we went back to the hotel and had a nice long sleep...

Sunday, we woke up early, hit the hotel's gym for a bit, then got ready to roll. Met Janja Weed for breakfast and went to the wedding! It was a lovely affair, had a nice time with my family. I shall soon attach some pictures! Headed home around 8ish, got home at 10pm (just in time for "Grey's Anatomy"), and hit the sack around 11pm.

Today had a pretty chilled day at work, we are getting excited about the big move back to LB! Stuff is getting packed up slowly but surely, addresses are getting changed on our bills etc, U-Haul is booked. Also, Michelle is here, she has gotten a job in Hauppague, and is looking to get her Canadian visa stuff sorted, get herself an apartment, and get moved in. All exciting stuff!

Good ol' Janja Weed is gonna come up and help us move this weekend, and Jared and Lenny are gonna try to lend a hand too - so hopefully it will go pretty smoothly....

That's about all from this end. I think I shall go watch Jay and Silent Bob now. I love that shit. I would definitely recommend a rental....if you like to laugh at obscenities and farting. I don't think humor gets any better than that.

PEACE.

It's Official!

This morning, we have officially signed the lease on our new apartment in Long Beach!! We are going to move in on Memorial Day weekend - gonna gather the troops, rent a U-Haul, and shlep all of our crap down to the LBC - and we are both looking forward to more space, our own washer/drier, etc! Its going to be weird moving back to the city where I grew up/lived for 27 years. I never EVER thought this would happen. Funny how life goes sometimes, eh?

Let the packing begin................

Can't you read? What are you doing sitting there? ORDER NOW! Posted by Hello

Mission Accomplished!

So today, our day off, we went to check out some more apartments. 2 more to be exact. Here's the rundown:

1) E. Rockaway, 3 bedroom 1.5 bath. Nice airy place....but no washer/drier, parking for only 1 car....and $1850 a month. Verdict: Too much money, washer and drier a must. So, No.

2) Long Beach - 2 bedroom, 1 bath. Bottom floor of a house, side entrance. Hardwood floors in the living room and dining room. Kitchen is big, all new appliances etc. Bathroom is large and modern, all new stuff. Bedrooms are large, carpeted, new closet doors. Complete with washer/drier/dishwasher. And we get the backyard all to ourselves. Verdict: PERFECT!!

So, monday we are going to sign all the paperwork, have our credit reports checked etc. All being well....we are gonna be moving in in a couple of weeks!!! The dining room we shall make into our computer room, and we are already making plans to buy a new bed, new stuff for the bigger apartment, etc.

Fingers crossed that all works out well!!

Looks like I am moving back to my ol' stomping grounds!

-B

PS-> Got my new DMB cd/t-shirt today - new album is VERY different, but I like it!!!!

Hunting Season!

Apartment hunting, that is. We have been to see 4 or so, and let me tell you - it is unreal what people are charging for absolute SHIT HOLES! How the hell can anyone afford to live here?? Let me describe for you what we have seen:

1) The first floor of a house nearby in Baldwin - they were asking $1500 a month (plus utilities) for what looked like a crack house. I am not exaggerating. It was a broken down piece of garbage house, with crap all over the lawn, disgusting old interior, and a pink bathroom. Verdict: FUCK no.

2) The top floor of a nice house in Baldwin Harbor. This one was ok, I guess I could have lived there, but it had some drawbacks. Firstly - the pink carpeting was appaling. (Anyone else noticing a PINK trend here?!??) I could just imagine our blue couch sitting atop it....it made me gag. Also, the windows were dodgy, thin, old side-sliding windows. One of the bedrooms needed painting, and the bathroom was pretty shit. Apart from those things, the place was very big and liveable. However, I wasn't comfortable with these little things, also the landlord seemed a bit dodgy to me. Verdict: Nope.

3) A garden apartment in Hewlett. This place was HUGE. Hardwood floors throughout. Balcony - nice for BBQing. However....the kitchen was a tiny galley thing with all old appliances and cupboards. The bathrooms were OLD and dodgy looking. Also, there were air conditioners, built right into the wall , however the location of them left a lot to be desired - i.e. you couldnt put anything up against or near the wall, it made the placement of the bed etc awkward. Oh, not to mention the fact that it was an apartment in a building. 2nd floor. No elevators. Allotted parking spaces. Shlepping groceries etc up the stairs and all the way down the hall. UGH. Verdict: Felt too much like being back in College Close (in vet school), so NO.

4) 1st floor of a house in Long Beach, my home town. The apartment itself was nice - new kitchen, bathroom ok, big rooms. However, the carpets were filthy, there was a communal entrance with the upstairs tenants - this entry way was covered with shoes, jackets, etc, and it smelled like old rotting Mexican food. Verdict: Again, HELL no.

So that is where we stand. It is difficult to find a place that is a) liveable and b) will let us have our cats. I don't understand how they can let children - who shit, piss, vomit, etc everywhere- live there, but not 2 little cats that don't make a bit of mess. I guess it is their perogative, however I still say FUCK THAT SHIT!

Sorry for all of the vulgarities, but I am in a foul mood tonight!

Anyway, we will continue to look for the "perfect place", and when hell freezes over I will let you know. What have we learned here? We would probably be MUCH better off moving the hell off Long Island. Someday.....
